An original companion story · Chapter II
The road remembers your footsteps.
An imagined path divides. The river offers company; the ridge offers a wider sky. Choose your way, then follow three traces of light to the other side.
Follow the river
Stay close to the water. Notice the little things.
The stepping stones
A line of stones crosses the shallows. You hold the lantern low and take one careful step, then another.
The leaning willow
Under the branches, the water carries your light in a hundred pieces. It loses none of its warmth.
The far bank
You reach the other side. Behind you, a ribbon of brightness shows the crossing to anyone who follows.
Take the high ridge
Meet the open sky. Find a wider view.
The worn stair
Old steps climb out of the trees. You turn once and discover how far a small light can be seen.
The windward stone
The wind rises. You shelter the glass with your hand until the flame grows steady again.
The open horizon
At the crest, the sky seems to unfold. You have not shortened the road, but you can see where it might lead.

Where the path divides
The path divides without a sign. One way follows the sound of water; the other follows the widening sky.
On screen: The lantern path appears through a gentle dissolve. Two fine route traces separate near the foreground, inviting the eye toward different distances.
The low conversation
Beside the water, the day has left its warmth in the stones. A crossing can be a place to pause.
On screen: A low view follows the painted stream. Reeds drift across the near edge while small registered lines move with the water.
Three traces of light
Water below, branches above. Between them, three traces of light make a route that can be followed one patient moment at a time.
On screen: The view moves close to the forest crossing. Three restrained lights appear in sequence across a line, with the nearest leaves becoming softly unfocused.
The other invitation
For a moment, you picture the other way: the higher air, the quieter bank. Choosing one need not diminish the other.
On screen: A brass-edged lens opens over the valley and reveals its matched night painting. The alternate view stays contained inside the aperture before it closes.
A wider kind of quiet
From higher ground, the valley gathers its crossings into one long gesture. The road is smaller now, and your choice feels clearer.
On screen: A higher composition opens the sunlit Sevendor interpretation. A passing near branch reveals the waterways and the long, connected valley below.
What the ways share
Every route has a near side and a far side. Between them is the moment when you decide to continue.
On screen: A held woodland composition lets its water and light carry the motion. Two route marks gently meet, then separate into the surrounding greenery.
A road of your own
Let the river or the ridge give you something to carry. There will be other roads; this one can be yours for now.
On screen: The view withdraws to the whole luminous valley. The route traces diminish into the distance, and the complete landscape holds on screen.
