An original companion story · Chapter IV
What will your light be for?
Power can begin with a quieter question. Read three possible moments ahead of you, then choose the promise you want to carry. Your choice shapes the final beacon.
Shelter
Rain begins before the last bend. Ahead, a doorway has no light. You could keep walking. Instead, you lift your lantern beneath the lintel and wait until the threshold is easy to see.
Let my light make room. Your beacon will glow like a welcoming hearth: warm, low, and steady.
Discovery
A narrow track leaves the familiar road. No sign tells you what lies beyond it. You raise the lantern, study the first few steps, and leave a small mark so that curiosity has a way home.
Let my light reveal a way. Your beacon will reach toward the horizon, inviting another traveller onward.
Courage
The wind presses hard against the glass. For a moment, it would be easier to lower the lantern. You cup your hand around it instead. The flame steadies, and you take the next step with it.
Let my light hold its ground. Your beacon will stand bright against the weather, a promise that the dark can be crossed.

A thousand evenings
From the high road, every window is a different evening. Each light belongs to someone you may never meet.
On screen: The broad valley appears behind near branches. Small registered window glints remain separate, giving the distant architecture a quiet human scale.
The same stones
A bridge offers the same stones to every traveller. It does not need to know their names to make their passage easier.
On screen: A low approach follows the painted village crossing. Foreground reeds pass toward the edge while a narrow line of light marks the water.
Three possible promises
Shelter keeps a place. Discovery opens a way. Courage holds a flame steady long enough for one more step.
On screen: The composition moves toward the warm village. Three small engraved marks gather into a triangular arrangement without covering the buildings.
The shape of a promise
One flame can take more than one shape. A roof, an opening, an upward stroke: each offers the same light a different purpose.
On screen: A brass emblem morphs from a sheltering arch to an open diamond and then an upright flame. The lantern remains steady behind the changing line.
Something you can carry
There is no grand vow to speak. Choose a purpose small enough to practise, and large enough to share.
On screen: The view rises from the lantern to the open distance. A near branch recedes out of focus while the promise emblem becomes a fine thread.
A steady answer
The weather may change before you reach the next house. The reason for carrying the light can remain the same.
On screen: The night village holds nearly still. A small shelter-like opening briefly frames its warm windows before dissolving into the surrounding evening.
The promise you choose
A welcome, an opening, or the courage to continue. Let the promise you choose give your light somewhere to go.
On screen: The whole lantern path returns. Three traces become one restrained line moving away from the flame, and the composition holds on the road.
